<Post by Becs> Yay! The latest Cotton Traders magazine mailer just popped through my postbox and it’s packed full of my copywriting work!

I LOVED writing the wording for their Spring-Summer 2020 collection, but the Weatherproof Jacket above was a personal fave... how cute is the brolly print lining?! Look at the intro... can anyone name the famous book that this quote is from?

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that..."

Combining my love for copywriting with my obsession for books... heaven!

You can take a peek at all the lovely clothing on the Cotton Traders website (beware... you may impulse purchase some clothing items!), but in the meantime, here are some pics of their lovely jackets and cosy cord shirts:

The lovely Cotton Traders team kindly gave us the testimonial below (hoooray!):

"Becs' enthusiasm is contagious, her passion is palpable and her writing is full of life. She's remarkably thorough, thinks of everything (even the things you never knew you needed) and meets even the most impossible of deadlines with flexibility, efficiency and warmth."

Hoooooooooorray we're extra happy to announce that we've started working with Cotton Traders on some very exciting copywriting projects!

Spot the nerdy little copywriter taking a photo of the Cotton Traders office on the way in... hehe. So Becs has got her fashion-copywriting-thinking-cap (yes there is such a thing) firmly on her head this month.

Keep your eyes peeled for some of Becs' copywriting work appearing soon in the Cotton Traders brochures and on their website!

If you watched The Apprentice last year, you may remember that Becs was as useful as a chocolate teapot on the programme... (mmm chocolate, mmmm tea).

We are the first people to admit that Becs was NOT in her element in the cut-throat, hard-nosed environment of The Apprentice... however, she was lucky enough to meet some genuinely lovely people whilst filming in Lord Sugar's boardroom, one of whom actually WON the show!

So... Becs was VERY excited when back in January Alana (the winner!) asked her to write the wording for her new website launching Ridiculously Rich by Alana (a 50-50 partnership with Lord Sugar himself).

Armed with cake (copious product testing was required during the writing of this copy) and tea (obvs) Becs set to work crafting some cake-related copy to bring Alana's devourable cakes, awesome business and lovely personality to life.

This copy was SO MUCH FUN to write.

Alana wanted her wording to be cute, young, fun and distinctive... music to our ears. One of Becs' favourite moments was an afternoon WhatsApp chat with Alana which went:

Becs: "Do you like the words 'our sticky toffee flapjack is an oaterly indulgent treat...' It made me smirk... But I wasn't sure if it was too random?"

Alana: "Oaterly indulgent is the best thing I have heard all day."

Hehehe. It only got better from there.

Here's some of the website copy:

"Brownie lover - you have met your match. Our Crème Brûlée Brownies begin with a gooey chocolate brownie base, get smothered in a vanilla and white chocolate topping and are finished with a sprinkle of homemade butterscotch. Utterly unique and marvellously melty."

"No description can adequately explain the ludicrously awesome taste of our Belgian Chocolate Rocky Road slices. Imagine a mouth-watering combination of crunchy biscuit complementing sweet, gooey GIANT marshmallows and decadent Belgian chocolate."

"Our cake subscriptions are perfect for people committed to trying amazing cake. Whether you're a flapjack fanatic, a caramel connoisseur or you're devoted to devouring brownies - there is something for everyone."

Here are some of our favourite headlines on the website:

Let's just take a moment to drool over how amazing Alana's cakes are:

Here are some nice words from Alana!

"I didn’t realise the power of wording until Becs at Fi & Becs helped me with my website. The wonderful thing is that she totally got my personality but pushed it to the max to get the most out of all the website pages. She made it fun and personal (exactly as I asked) I couldn’t be more happy - thank you Apprentice buddy!”

So, if you LOVE cake and you want to try the most utterly delicious cake-based treats (you can even sign up to a monthly subscription!) get on over to Alana's website and order yourself some moreish morsels of amazingness!

As you might know (if you follow us on our social media stuff) we love Cumbria and we love clothes. So, when Cumbrian based Amy from Little Ted Clothing asked us to help with a website for her kidswear brand we were pretty damn excitable.

We had both been following Amy on Facebook for a while because:

1) Her reversible handmade children's clothing is super cute (seriously, we heart the mustard bird pinafores).

2) Her social media is fun and her posts make us laugh.

3) Amy actually grew up in the same TINY village as us (well, it's more of a hamlet) in rural West Cumbria!

In true Fi & Becs style, we chatted to Amy all about her business and her brand and the first thing we actually ended up helping with was a brand refresh. Amy loved the Little-Ted-bear-on-a-red-tractor-design and she didn't want to lose his personality so we gave him a nice scrubbing up - softening his edges and giving him handmade vibe.

Once we had refreshed the logo we moved onto the website and the wording. Amy's wanted her website to feel "simple, friendly and fun" so we created a clean, fresh and giggle-filled website design with kid-inspired wording.

Here is an example of the design and wording we used on the Home page banners:

We LOVED the photography that Amy gave us to build the site as it really brought her clothing to life and gave us the inspiration for all of the copywriting and product descriptions!

For example...

"Little Ted Clothing make kid-friendly, fun and adventuresome clothing for little girls and boys. Inspired by farm yards, playtime and fresh air (after all - we're based in Cumbria!) we believe in letting children be whoever they want to be."

"Pop her into a versatile Pinafore with this stunning on-trend mustard print dress. Perfect for grubby afternoons or super cute party-wear, these quirky birds in wellingtons are guaranteed to make her (and you) grin."

So it is with pure glee that we announce the launch of Little Ted Clothing's FIRST EVER website today! Hoooray!

Have a nosey around Amy's amazing, reversible clothing for yourself:

P.S. Amy also makes totally bespoke designs so don't be surprised if you see Becs wearing one of her 'Pinafore Meet Mustard Birds' dresses at some point in the near future.

It's always exciting to see our copywriting work live on a client website, so spotting our wording on the Matalan kidswear pages totally makes our day!

Writing fashion copy is always fun, but we particularly love letting our brains loose on the boys/girls fashion pages. As Mums to three small (pesky and grimy) boys, we enjoy writing wording that matches real family life and makes people smile.

Here's some of our favourite lines that are live on the Matalan website at the moment:

"Kit him out in the latest trends with super cool tops, roll-up jeans and hardwearing outfits - perfect for dirty knees and growing boys."

"From sweet toddlers to teen babes, our girl’s collection is perfect for schoolyard style, springtime parties and dress-up Disney princess afternoons."

The Matalan spring/summer fashion and homeware is really lovely this year - definitely worth a peek!

Having grown up in the Cumbrian countryside with a family ritual of Sunday lunches at the local pub, we both love a good country pub. So we were very excited when Lynda from the Railway Inn in Mobberley got in touch with us looking for some new branding, a new website and general help with all things marketingy!

The first job we worked on with the Railway Inn was to develop them a new brand as they were using lots of different styles on their posters, menus signs etc. This was a great job because Lynda and Tony didn't have a strong idea of what they were looking for - so we had lots of lovely creative freedom!

Brilliantly Lynda and Tony actually got their customers in the pub to vote on which was their favourite logo design and the one shown above was chosen! Once the new Railway Inn logo was launched (and loved by the pub!) we started work on their posters and Light Bites Menu... giving them a friendly, welcoming look and feel which matched their new brand.

With the posters and menu designed and in use... we turned our attentions to the Railway Inn's new website. The Railway Inn already had a website, but they wanted a fresh look to show off their lovely country pub and a website they could update easily with their events info.

Following our advice (as we realised they could do with some great photography!) Lynda at the Railway Inn worked with a great local photographer Kanashay Photography who produced some gorgeous photos of the pub - a delight to use when designing the new website!

The new Railway Inn website has launched today and we are very excited to introduce it to the world - we shall we having a pint this evening to celebrate!

It's always an exciting job to launch a website for a client, so it's a lovely mid-week task for us to reveal the brand new website for Henszel Designs!

Jonathan and Anna from Henszel Designs got in touch with us back in October as they needed a website for their architecture business based in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire.

Armed with advert that they had previously designed (below), Jonathan and Anna asked us to design them a professional, modern website that would (in their words!) "provide a clear statement of 'welcome' and where you have arrived... an architect's website!"

We used their existing advert as inspiration for their website design.
We used their existing advert as inspiration for their website design.

Using their advert as a basis for the design, we developed the whole Henszel Design website including copywriting their text and displaying the stunning imagery of their architectural projects.

"Henszel Designs is headed up by Anna Craig, a Qualified Architect with many years experience managing builds and extensions for clients and investors, following extensive studies in Poland and Holland.

With an armoury of specialist construction and material knowledge, we can also provide a detailed design concept for both interior and exterior projects"

We have loved working on this website for Henszel Design - it's so satisfying to help a business develop consistent marketing materials which suit their brand and portray the look/feel they want to achieve!

We thought it was about time to share lots of exciting work that we've done recently for the retail giant Matalan! Yay.

Admittedly Becs has spent a fair amount of time lurking around Matalan stores in recent months to see her work on the in-store POS, hear her wording on the Matalan radio and pick up leaflets containing her headlines... she's a total word nerd.

Our Monday afternoon cuppa was made even better today by reading our ‪copywriting‬ work in the fabulous Christmas & New Year Breaks Brochure by Lake District Hotels!

Lake District Hotels are a collection of seven award winning hotels in the Lake District. Owned and run by the Graves family, the hotels are situated in the most beautiful parts of the Lakes.

This was a fanastic project which Becs loved working on (she really got into the festive season in August!), especially as the hotels are situated across Cumbria - where we both grew up!

Take a look at our other copywriting work for Lake District Hotels.

What an amazing place to stay during the festive season! Get more info on the Lake District Hotels website.
